What is UIN (Unique Identification Number)?

UIN of Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) investors

Updated over 2 months ago

Your UIN is like your unique ID just for the stock market.

It is a special, unique identification code given to you by the National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL).

Who Needs a UIN?

To trade on the PSX, a UIN is required for all types of investors, including:

  • Individual investors (Pakistani citizens, foreigners, or overseas Pakistanis)

  • Companies

  • Funds

  • And even stockbrokers themselves.

Why is Your UIN Important for You?

  • Traceability: It ensures every single trade is linked directly to you, making it easy to track your investments.

  • Security: It acts as a safety measure, ensuring only authorized investors can place trades.

  • Transparency: It brings clarity to the stock market, benefiting all participants.

How Does Your UIN Work When You Trade?

  • Trading: When you place an order (to buy or sell shares), your UIN is sent automatically to the exchange.

  • Instant Check: Before your order is processed, the stock exchange's system immediately verifies that your UIN is valid and linked to a registered investor.

  • Order Validation:

    • If your UIN is correct and registered, your order will proceed.

    • If the UIN is wrong, invalid, or doesn't exist, the system will automatically reject your order.
