What is the Screener?

PSX Stock Screener

Updated this week

Overview of the Screener

Screener is a powerful, customizable tool designed to help you filter through all the stocks listed on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). With over 150 indicators, including fundamental, technical, price, volume, and financial metrics, you can quickly identify companies that align with your unique investment strategy on PSX.

How to access the tool?

You can access the tool by the left navigational menu or by quickly typing /screen shortcut in StockIntel's search bar.

Default View

When you first open the Screener, you will see nine pre-built screens designed to save you time. These come with a variety of indicators and templates.

  • To switch between them, simply click on the name of the screen you want to view.

  • Alternatively, you can click the "All Screeners" button, choose the screen you want from the list, and then click "Load".

How to create a new screener?

To build your own custom screener on PSX stocks:

  1. Click the "Create Screener" button located on the top right side of the page.

  2. A pop-up window will appear, prompting you to:

    • Give your new screener a name (e.g., "High-Dividend Banks" or "Undervalued Cement Stocks").

    • Add a brief description.

    • Select the indicators you want to include in your analysis.

How to choose period of financial and fundamental indicators?

When using financial and fundamental indicators on the StockIntel screener, you can choose from different timeframes to get the most relevant data for your analysis of PSX-listed companies. This is particularly useful as many companies on the Pakistan Stock Exchange have different fiscal year-ends.

Here’s a breakdown of the available options and how to apply them:

Available Timeframes

  • TTM (Trailing Twelve Months): This option provides a rolling 12-month value for an indicator (e.g., EPS, ROE).

  • Annual: Select this to see a company's performance over its full financial year.

  • Quarterly: This view shows the results for a specific quarter based on the PSX-listed company's own fiscal year calendar. For example, a company with a June 30 year-end would have different quarters than one with a December 31 year-end.

  • Quarter Ended: Use this option to view the quarterly results based on a consistent calendar year, such as "Quarter Ended March" or "Quarter Ended June." This is useful for comparing the performance of companies with different fiscal periods.

How to Add and Save Indicators

  1. Add Indicators: When you select a financial or fundamental indicator, you will be prompted to choose a timeframe from the list above. For each indicator you want to include, click "Add."

  2. Save Your Screen: Once you have added all the indicators you need, click the "Save" button to apply them. The table will then populate with the data for the timeframes you selected, giving you a customized view of the PSX market.

How to add same indicator multiple times?

You can repeat the process and add the same indicator multiple times with different timeframes. For example, you can add one column for "EPS (Annual)" and a separate column for "EPS (Quarterly)" to your screener, allowing you to compare the long-term trend with the most recent performance side-by-side.

How to filter stocks?

To narrow down your list of PSX stocks based on specific criteria:

  1. Open the Filters:

    • Click on the "Filters" button to open the filtering panel.

  1. Set Indicator-Based Filters:

    • You can set criteria for any of the indicators you've added to your screen. For example:

      • Fundamental Indicators: Filter for companies with an EPS (Earnings Per Share) greater than a certain value.

      • Valuation Indicators: Find stocks with a P/E Ratio within a specific range, such as 5 to 15, to identify potentially undervalued companies.

  2. Filter by Index or Sector:

    • The screener also allows you to filter based on market-wide categories. You can:

      • Select a specific PSX index like the KSE-100 or KSE-30 to focus on top-performing or highly liquid stocks.

      • Choose a particular sector from the PSX, such as Cement, Commercial Banks, or Oil & Gas Exploration Companies, to analyze a specific industry.

  3. Include Specific Stocks:

    • For even more granular control, you have the option to manually include a few specific stocks from your results.

  4. Apply Your Changes:

    • Once you have set all your desired filters, click "Save" and "Apply Changes". The table will instantly update to show only the stocks that match your criteria.

How to edit indicators?

You can easily customize your PSX screener to display the specific data you need for your analysis. Follow these steps to change the indicators:

  1. Open the Edit Option: Click on the "Edit Screener" button.

  2. Manage Indicators: A window will appear, giving you full control over your screener's columns. From here, you can:

    • Add new indicators to your screen.

    • Remove any indicators you no longer need.

    • Modify the settings of the indicators you've already selected.

How to sort values in the column in ascending order?

To quickly organize the data in your PSX screener, you can sort the values within any column. This allows you to find the highest or lowest values for a specific metric.

  • Locate the Column Header: Go to the column you want to sort, such as Price, Volume, or Change.

  • Click the Sort Button: Click the up and down arrow button on that column's header.

  • Set the Order: Choose the order Ascending (Sort Asc) or Descending (Sort Desc).
