What is Settlement Analysis Tool?

StockIntel's Settlement Analysis tool offers a clear and efficient way to track how trades settle on the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX). It helps you understand investor behavior, spot trends, and identify anomalies.

How to access the tool?

You can access the settlement analysis tool by the left navigational menu under the "Market Data" section.

Default View

The default view provides a 10-day overview of daily trade and settlement value at the Pakistan Stock Exchange, and their ratio by UIN (Unique Identification Number).

Navigating the PSX Settlement Data

You can customize your view:

  • Choose Your Timeframe: In the upper left corner, you can select the historical settlement data of PSX period you want to analyze. Simply click on the buttons for:

    • 10 Days: To view recent daily settlement trends.

    • 3 Months: For a broader quarterly overview.

    • 1 Year: To see long-term annual patterns.

  • Select Data Type (Volume or Value): Also in the upper left corner, you can switch between viewing settlement data based on:

    • Volume: This shows the number of shares traded at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) during that period.

    • Value: This displays the monetary worth of the shares traded at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) during that period.

    Reading the PSX Settlement Data

  • The Bars: Total Traded Activity on PSX

    • Each bar on the chart indicates the total trading activity on the PSX during that specific period, depending on your selection.

    • This will show either the total volume of shares traded on PSX or the total value traded on PSX, based on whether you've selected "By Volume" or "By Value."

  • The Blue Area: Successfully Settled Portion

    • The blue part within each bar highlights the portion of that total trading activity that has been successfully settled. "Settled" means the shares have been delivered and funds exchanged, completing the transaction.

  • The Line: Settlement Ratio

    • The line overlaid on the chart represents the settlement ratio. This is a percentage which indicates how efficiently trades are being settled.

    • It's calculated as: (Settled Amount / Total Traded Amount) × 100. A higher ratio indicates more successful and timely settlements.

Downloading the Chart

If you wish to save or share the visual data:

  • To download the settlement data of PSX as an image file, simply click on the "Download Image" button located on the right side of the display.

What information is available in the table?

Below the chart is a table displaying settlement data reported by listed companies of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) for the date selected.

You can use the toggle to view data by UIN (Unique Identification Number) or CM (Clearing Member).

  • Date: The specific calendar date for the trading and settlement data of PSX.

  • Symbol: The PSX stocks symbol/ ticker

  • Trade Volume: The total number of shares that were traded for that specific stock on the given date at the PSX

  • Trade Value: The total value (monetary value) of shares traded for that specific stock on the given date at the PSX

  • UIN Settlement Volume: The number of shares that have been successfully settled (i.e., delivered and cleared) for that specific PSX stock.

  • UIN Settlement Value: The monetary value of shares that have been successfully settled for that specific PSX stock.

  • UIN Percentage Volume: This percentage shows what proportion of the total traded volume for that PSX stock was successfully settled.

  • UIN Percentage Value: This percentage indicates what proportion of the total traded value for that PSX stock was successfully settled.

Filtering PSX Settlement Data in the Table

You can easily refine the displayed table data using various filters:

Filter by Companies:

  1. Enter the company name or its PSX ticker symbol in the search bar.

  2. Select the desired company from the list that appears.

  3. Click the "Search" button.

Filter by Traded Value at PSX:

  1. Enter the minimum total traded value (in PKR) you want to see.

  2. Click the "Search" button.

Filter by Traded Volume at PSX:

  1. Enter the minimum total traded volume (number of shares) you want to see.

  2. Click the "Search" button.

Filter by Settlement Value at PSX:

  1. Enter the minimum settled value (in PKR) that has been successfully cleared.

  2. Click the "Search" button.

Filter by Settlement Volume at PSX:

  1. Enter the minimum settled volume (number of shares) that has been successfully cleared.

  2. Click the "Search" button.

Filter by UIN Percentage Settlement Volume at PSX:

  1. Enter the minimum percentage of traded volume that was settled (e.g., enter '80' for 80%).

  2. Click the "Search" button.

Filter by UIN Percentage Settlement Value at PSX:

  1. Enter the minimum percentage of traded value that was settled (e.g., enter '80' for 80%).

  2. Click the "Search" button.

Resetting and Downloading PSX Settlement Data

  • Reset the Data: Click on "Reset" to revert to default settings and clear any applied filters.

  • Downloading PSX Settlement Data: To download the table data, click on "Export Excel" in the upper right corner, just above the table.

Can I find historical settlement data of PSX?

Yes, you can use combination of date and company filter for this.

To Filter Historical PSX Settlement Data:

  1. Enter the desired Date: Use the date filter to specify the historical date you want to view.

  2. Click the "Search" button.

To Filter Historical Settlement Data for a Specific PSX Stock:

  1. Select the PSX Stock: Use the company filter to choose the specific PSX stock you are interested in.

  2. Enter the Date or Date Range: Use the date filter to specify a single date or a range of dates.

  3. Click the "Search" button.

Where is the data sourced from?

The settlement data presented for the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) is officially sourced from the National Clearing Company of Pakistan Limited (NCCPL). NCCPL is the central entity responsible for clearing and settling all trades in the Pakistani capital market.

How often is the data updated?

The data after market close by the NCCPL. You can access historical data stretching all the way back to 2016.

Tips for Effective Use

  • Refine Your View: Adjust parameters and sort columns (click headers!) to focus on the data you need.

  • Combine Filters: Use multiple filters together for deeper, more specific insights.

  • Toggle UIN/CM: Switch between UIN (individual investor) and CM (broker/clearing member) views to understand who's driving settlement trends.
